Seabass’ Diary…Day 130…We Had No Choice…

January 16, 2017-I shook my head…”WHAT? A WHAT?”

Bernard didn’t answer and I took that as a bad sign. I turned toward the large human and saw that he was looking in his rearview mirror. He had obviously seen what we had because he was using four-letter-words at an increased, and louder frequency.

I looked behind us and the tall, thin human and her henchmen were gaining on us. Our stolen car weaved and accelerated into oncoming traffic and the tiny bit of strength I had left was barely enough to raise my paws to my eyes to cover them.

“HANG ON!” The large human said as he smashed the passenger side window with a hammer that was in the back seat. He turned his attention to his own window and opened it fully.

I released my paws from my eyes and grabbed onto Bernard for dear life! My eyes fluttered open for a split second only to see that we were in deep trouble and it was just ahead.

“What is he doing? WHAT IS HE DOING?” Bernard yelled as he shook me.

I turned my attention back to the front windshield and braced for impact. I knew exactly what was going to happen and it was about to go down in a split second.

The street we were on ended at a pier. Before I could tell Bernard that I loved him, the large human punched the gas and launched the car off of the end of the dock.

We hit the water with enormous force but I managed to hold my breath as we became fully submerged. My arms and legs flailed as I tried to find my way to the surface. The water was dark and murky and I wasn’t sure which way was up. I blinked a couple of times and found my way out of the flooded car window. I started to panic until I was finally pulled from the water.

Seabass’ Diary…Day 129…Reunited (Sort of)

January 9, 2017- I blinked hard a couple of times because tears pricked at the back of my eyes…It was Bernard! The big human flung open the door, let out a high pitched whistle and Bernard jumped into the front seat with us. The big human slammed the door shut and we continued to speed down the road at an alarming rate and made a few hairpin turns that made me queasy. I shifted my weight on the seat and turned my attention back to Bernard.

“I’m so glad you’re ok!” I said as I squeezed him as hard as I could.

“I thought you had exploded!”

He looked at me and with a raised eyebrow, “I would have exploded if I had listened to YOU and waited in the truck,” he said with a scowl.

“Well, I’m glad you didn’t bother listening to me…what happened exactly?” I asked.

“I don’t think this is really the time or the place to tell you,” he said as he looked out the back window and gulped.

“We’ve got bigger problems!”

I looked over my shoulder and noticed that the tall thin human’s henchman was pointing something out the window.

“What is that?” I whispered.

I glanced at Bernard and saw panic wash over his face. He was totally silent for a beat and it was if he snapped back into reality when I nudged him.

“That…” he paused “is a rocket launcher.”

Seabass’ Diary…Day 104…The Plan of Action

August 17,2016- I closed the door behind Bandit and started to prepare for phase 1 of the plan. I checked the clock again it was 1 am, that meant I had some time left before the tall, thin human returned to exact her revenge. I had no idea what she would do but I did know what she was capable of.

After I had prepared the necessary items for our plan of action, I sat down and had a snack. Funny how plotting things can make you famished. At precisely 2:00 am there was a knock at the door so I answered it. Bandit stood with Stinky on the front stoop of the prison with an army of animals behind them. There were some critters I had never met before but I was grateful for their allegiance to me. As each of the animals entered the prison I handed them a wig to put on. After the last comrade had entered, I closed the prison gate and looked around the room. What a sight to behold; animals big and small adorned with wigs of all lengths and colours…it was quite terrifying actually but somehow still magnificent.

I commanded the floor and straightened my wig, “Thank you all for being here tonight. As you know Simba and I are under attack again…we are being stalked by a tall, thin human who is out for revenge. I trust that you will help me defeat her!” The animals clapped and cheered and some of them even let out battle cries; It was inspiring! Luckily , all of the noise and boisterous behaviour did not wake Simba. He had been sound asleep for eighteen hours already and showed no signs of stirring.

“Does everyone know what their role is?” I asked. “YES!” the animals shouted in unison. I looked at my watch and set the alarm for precisely 2:31 am…one minute before the tall, thin human would return and break into the prison. I shut off the lights and the animals took to their posts.

Seabass’ Diary…Day 96…Followed…

August 5, 2016- I cringed at the thought…maybe Simba was right. I muddled it around in my brain for a moment and thought about the odds…probably slim to none.I was quite sure that the tall, thin human was not so elusive that she could avoid capture-afterall, there were dozens of police and a heavy SWAT presence when we were rescued, surely they would have captured her.  Simba laid down in the corner of the animal transportation device and I laid down in the other and we drifted off to sleep. It had been an extremely trying week and we were both exhausted.

We were stirred awake by a gentle swaying motion; we had finally arrived at our destination and were lifted into the prison. When the gate opened on the animal transportation device I bolted out from it…I desperately needed to stretch my legs and use the facilities. I was happy to return to my lair…I had missed the comforts of it. Simba went to his usual post-the stupid human’s nest, and settled in for the night. All was well and I drifted off into slumber once again.

I opened my eyes to blackness. It was so dark that I could barely see a thing. I stretched and yawned and tried to roll over and go back to sleep but it was of no use…there was a faint sound of something coming from the front door. I decided to investigate. I slunk out of bed and took my post on the back of the couch…I looked out into the dark night and blinked hard a few times. The black getaway car was parked in front of the prison! I raced across the room to obtain a better vantage point and there in the glow of the moonlight stood the tall, thin human.

Seabass’ Diary…Day 72…Showtime

July 1, 2016-A thousand thoughts raced through my mind but I tried to remain in the moment; I could not afford a misstep. I took a deep breath in and held it for a second as I closed my eyes, I prayed Simba was being released at this very moment.

“Listen carefully,” the tall, thin human said, “You will follow our every instruction because if you don’t, you’ll never see Simba again! Do you understand?” “Yes,” I said. “Edgardo, get him ready…we begin in 3 minutes!” She unrolled a set of blueprints and motioned for Henri to come and look at them. Edgardo fitted me with a black cargo vest much like his; No one knew I was keeping a secret…I had an ace up my sleeve and  when I was in the Chanel bag I picked up a tool of my own… a tool that would unravel the whole operation.

Edgardo placed an ear piece in my ear and tested it to make sure it worked. “We’re ready to go boss!” he said and took his position on the top of the skylight. The tall, thin human handed Edgardo a glass cutter and he made an incision; he carefully lifted a perfectly circular pane of glass and placed it to the side. He attached a nylon cord to my vest and secured it to a latch on the roof; “SHOWTIME!” he smirked and pushed me into the hole!

I hurtled through the air at an incredible speed and just before I was a splat on the ground, I came to a jerking stop just inches above the floor. I looked around the room and it became very clear why I had been chosen. Onyx statues, big and small surrounded the room and they all had one thing in common…they were all black cats.
