Seabass’ Diary…Day 124…Danger…

September 25, 2016- The words one black cat rang in my ears. I looked at Bernard and he looked at me, I could tell by the fear in his eyes that I had heard correctly. My heart thumped against my ribs and I felt like I couldn’t breathe; I wasn’t sure if the large human would betray me or not…afterall, our relationship had been tumultuous, to say the least.

We pulled into a parking lot and I saw the warehouse that the large human had identified to the emergency voice on the speakers. The large human pulled the truck around to the side of the building and shut off the engine. “Stay here,” he said to both of us. I breathed a quick sigh of relief and watched as he reached into the back seat and grabbed a black carrier bag. “I really hope that they believe this is you,” he said as he shook his head.

I looked around for the police but there was no sign of them and no sound of sirens in the far off distance. I truly hoped that they would come barging in at any moment and save the day. There was no doubt in my mind that they were coming but I didn’t know how much time we had before things got even more dangerous.

I wondered what was in the carrier bag but was thankful that it wasn’t me. The large human shut the door and walked quickly to the back of the building out of sight.

Seabass’ Diary…Day 123…Ransom

September 21, 2016-I looked at Bernard and realized that he was just as scared as I was. There were so many unknowns, what if we didn’t reach the small human in time? What if Simba had been captured too? We had no idea where he was at this point and I was consumed with worry. The biggest what if was what if we were walking right into a trap?

I muddled this around in my head for a moment and quickly snapped back to reality when the voice came over the truck speakers again. “Sir, are you hurt? What is your location? Where are you going?” The large human remained stoic until the voice said, “Sir? Can you hear me?…Sir?”  He finally answered the voice, “I’m headed west on Scenic Boulevard to an empty  warehouse…the address is 1472 Irongate…they’re holding my wife hostage until I give them a ransom.”

I gulped, the situation became more dire with each passing second. “Sir who is holding your wife hostage? Please pull over to the side of the road safely and turn off your vehicle. Police have been dispatched. For your own safety let the police handle this,” the voice said firmly.

I looked at Bernard, he had his head in his hands and looked like he was going to be sick. “Sir, please tell me that you will follow my instructions,” the voice said. “No…it’ll be too late by the time the police get to her. I have exactly seven minutes to get there or else…” his voice drifted off, “Just get an ambulance over there…”

The voice on the speakers said, “Your wife is being held for ransom in a warehouse, you need to let the professionals handle this… I must alert the unit of the details so please tell me everything you can…how much is the ransom?” The human looked sideways at me for a second and his face was drawn and tight, “One black cat.”
