Seabass’ Diary…Day 95…Uneasy

August 4, 2016-I figured out why it took our stupid humans so long to come and collect us-they were waiting for grandpa to give his statement to the police. I didn’t know if the tall, thin human had been arrested or not but I felt safe in the fact that I was going far away from it all and back to the security of the prison.

As Simba and I crouched in the animal transportation device, we listened to the stupid humans speak with grandpa, “It was all over the news,” the small, stupid one said, “I couldn’t believe it!” “You didn’t finish telling us about what happened to Hannah,” the large, stupid human said, “Was she a good guy or a bad guy?” I desperately wanted to know what happened as well in this regard.

“She turned out to be one of the good guys! When she returned to the house to get her cell phone was when I hot-wired the truck…she was the one who called the police and alerted them to our location in the hopes that they would arrive before the pet hotel owner did. She also called the news because she wanted to get as much exposure as possible to help reunite the stolen pets with their owners,” grandpa said.

I breathed a sigh of relief and sat back a bit…my intuition about her had been wrong. Simba looked at me and said, “I still had an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. Something tells me that the tall, thin human is still at large.”

Seabass’Diary…Day 91…Breakaway…

July 28, 2016-My guts churned as I realized that we were on a crash course with the black car. I looked behind us and Hannah was in another car  and she was gaining on us-we were about to be sandwiched between the two. The black car was parked horizontally and blocked the end of the lane way; there was no where to go but straight through it! Grandpa opened the sliding rear window of the pick up truck, “Get in the cab!” he yelled and one by one we climbed into the front of the truck.

There was just enough room for all of us. Grandpa slid the back window shut and stepped on the gas, “Everybody HANG ON!” He stepped down on the gas and the truck reached top speed; I could see that the tall, thin human and Edgardo were standing in front of the car and that they were holding a gun.Shots rang out and I could hear the bullets hit the metal bumper and the side of the truck and we all ducked-Grandpa veered to the left and we made contact with the front of the black getaway car.

We hit the car with so much force that it shifted from it’s position and we made it through the barrier! Smoke was pouring from the truck engine so badly that we could barely see out the windshield. Grandpa rolled down his window and stuck his head out of the driver’s side door to gain visibility. We made it to the main road continued down it at a harrowing pace. He looked behind us and there was Hannah, still hot on our trail. “Dammit,” he said, “I knew the second I met her that she couldn’t be trusted-she’s working for the bad guys!”At that moment it all made sense…or did it?

Seabass’ Diary…Day 90…Grand Theft Auto…

July 27, 2016-Grandpa shook his head, “I don’t understand? What do you mean?” Hannah looked at him and whispered, “She was just here…and she’ll be back within the hour.” The colour drained from grandpa’s face and he stood still for a beat before he sprang into action. “We need to get the animals out of here NOW!” he said. Something deep inside of me said that we should not trust Hannah, it was a nagging feeling that wouldn’t stop.

Grandpa started to corral the animals and help them into the back of the truck and within minutes we finally loaded in. “I’ll take you to a safe place in town, it won’t take long to get there,” Hannah said. “I just need to get something from inside of the house,” she said. I caught the slightest look of anxiety as it flashed across on her face-she was lying. Grandpa looked uneasy but agreed,”Please hurry-we don’t have much time.” Hannah ran towards the abandoned farm house and grandpa slid into the driver’s seat of the truck-there were no keys in the ignition. As Hannah disappeared from view, grandpa slid the panel off of the steering column. He grabbed two wires, stripped them and twisted them together and the truck roared to life.

He put his foot on the gas and the truck burst out of the barn. We flew down the bumpy, gravel driveway at top speed and I looked behind me to see Hannah in the distance, waving her arms and running after us. The truck twisted around every corner and dust filled the air-we were almost to the road. At the end of the lane way I saw it…the same black car that had been used as the getaway car in the diamond heist.

Seabass’ Diary…Day 89…Hannah

July 26, 2016-We looked on in silence. The short, pretty human said, “Who are you and why are you here?” Grandpa answered her, “My name is Garnet and I’m here because I’m trying to save some animals…we desperately need your help because we are in danger.” The short, pretty human looked at him suspiciously and with every right to do so. “Where are your animals?” She asked with an eyebrow raised.

Grandpa gave a low whistle and we emerged one by one from our hiding places and stood before the human. “Here…they’re all here; they’ve been rescued from a pet hotel and some of these animals have been missing for years…they need to get back to their families,” he said. The short, pretty human finally dropped the pitchfork that she had been gripping tightly. “I’ve seen this on the news…people everywhere are looking for you guys…even you,” she said to Grandpa. Her eyes were huge with disbelief about what she had stumbled upon as she looked around at all of us.

She started to unload the back of her truck, “Yes, I’ll help you-We will go to the police station and tell them what’s happened. Get all of the animals into the back!”She said and there was a sense of urgency in her voice. Grandpa threw off the bales and then loaded us all into the bed of the pickup, “I don’t even know your name but thank you for helping us…” he said. “My name is Hannah,” she said quietly, “And you’re in more danger than you think.”

Interview With Hannah…

Hannah was the first prize winner of our contest that we held a few weeks ago! Congratulations Hannah and as promised, the first prize winner would be interviewed! She will also be a guest blogger on the site in the next few weeks and I’m excited to hear what she has to say. We will also be posting the video she sent in that made her win!

The interview was conducted via Skype on June 22, 2016

L=Lacey H=Hannah

L: “Thank you so much for being a reader of the kitty cat clan! Tell us a bit about yourself.”

H: “Thanks for picking me! I’m excited to be featured on the site! I’m from Brisbane Australia, I love cats and always have and I am a student at U of Queensland…I’m studying Agribusiness and sustainable agriculture.”

L: “That sounds really interesting!”

H:”It is!”

L: “Did you have a cat growing up?”

H: “No-unfortunately I’m highly allergic but I wish I did!”

L: “The video you sent in was hilarious-do you spend a lot of your downtime googling cat videos?”

H:”YES! And reading things other than textbooks…like Seabass’ Diary!”

L: “That’s so awesome! Thank you for that-we appreciate you as a reader! What do you like best about Seabass?”

H: “I really like his confidence and the way that he sees himself…and how he’s always getting into trouble!” “What I like most is that he has a big heart at the core…and that he usually tries to do the right thing…or at least he thinks he’s doing the right thing.”

L: “What’s been your favourite entry so far?”

H: “That’s a tough one…I’ve really enjoyed all of the entries but if I had to pick just one…definitely the one where they crash the wedding and steal the catering truck!”

L: “Good choice! Definitely a fan favourite! Are you excited to guest blog on the kitty cat clan? Can you give us a hint about what you want to blog about?”

H:”So excited! I’ve always been fascinated by animal behaviour, myths about cats over the centuries, and why cats do the things they do…they’re odd, furry little creatures that seem like they’re hiding something…I think that they think they’re smarter than us and that’s possible! I mean could you imagine? Cats have superiority complexes and they truly believe that they are better than us..I just find it hilarious-I like how confident they are in themselves!” “Maybe I’ll blog about a couple of really cool colonies around the world that are inhabited by cats…there’s a fascinating one in Rome!”

L: “That’s awesome! I can’t wait to read all about it and I’m so pumped that you’re excited to guest blog! Are you nervous about being a character?”

H:”No! Not at all! I’m super excited!”

L:”What kind of character do you want to be written as? A hero? A villain?  An animal?”

H:”Oh my gosh…that’s totally up to you! I really have no preference!”

L: “Don’t worry! Seabass will make you memorable I’m sure of it!”

H:”I have no doubt! Come to think of it…maybe a love interest would be nice…someone the opposite of Stephanie!”

L: “You got it! I’ll be sure to pass that along to him! Thanks so much for joining me today and I can absolutely say that I can’t wait for you to guest blog, I’m looking forward to it and so are our readers!”

H: “Thank you so much!”
